An inclusive, civic advisory group promoting awareness and participation in the arts throughout North Hollywood. Within the ethical framework established by the City of Los Angeles for all certified neighborhood councils, we will explore innovative approaches to bridging to gap between public and private concerns. Through creative activism we can add a splash of color to an urban renaissance that will not fade.

Main Mid-Town NoHo Site - Other Committees

The 2009 Holiday Celebration at the North Hollywood Park Community Center was a success beyond all our expectations. It was raining (a disarming, minor miracle in Southern California) and we expected roughly 150 people... 400+ showed up and a good time was had by all. As soon as photos arrive, they will be posted. Please feel free to browse photos of last years get-together. And if you have photos and/or newspaper clippings of "Old North Hollywood," please consider submitting copies of them to our committee's historical/cultural archivist, Rev. Jerrell Walls. All board members can be contacted through www.midtownnoho.org

On the 12th of January, 2010, the earthquake that struck Haiti also stuck the consciousness of California and the world. Please scroll down to the photo of the Humanity Tree and visit the updated link for humanitarian aid. And remember, we must also be prepared.

The Arts Committee was formed in October 2003 on a suggestion by board member Mary Garcia and meets monthly or as need arises. If you would like to attend, please e mail the link at the bottom of this page for further details. Our meetings are open to the public. A new committee has now formed for 2009. Please attend the Neighborhood Council meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at East Valley Sinor High School at 6:30 PM. to speak your mind and enjoy complimentary food and refreshments. You might find other committees there, such as public safety or land use that strike a deeper chord with you. Remember, as a tax payer you have already paid for them - so step up and make use of the system!

On December 13th, at the Senior Center in North Hollywood Park, the committee's 3rd Annual Holiday Celebration was a heart-warming success! Although not as grand in size as the first (a gift give-a-way to needy families was blocked at the last minute by city, legal red-tape, Senior Lead Officer John Catalano saved the day by adding the families to the LAPD's Santa-in-a-squad-car code 3 toy delivery caravan), the community's growth in talented performances was a beautiful feather in it's cap. A BIG THANK YOU to Mary Garcia, Jerrel Walls, Radomir Luza and Mary Mann of the committee and board members Diann Carol, Yvonne Demery and others who you will know when the final reviews come in along with photos. And a very special THANK YOU to all the performers, volunteers and suporters of all kinds. Please click below for a list of participants and gracious sponsors.

                    -   No Ho Scene Street Festival  -
The Nancy Bianconi and others organized a smaller, but fun and successful street festival in October of 2008. Unfortunatly, there was no festival for 2009 due to "lack of interest." Could this be true? One would hope not. The world , for the most part, will form an impression of an arts community by the reputation, originality and spontaneity of it's public festivals. A survey was taken during the event and it the suggestion for more live music ranked high in the results. Nancy, the CRA and many other entities and individuals would like to see the festival grow in the area of local talent. Check this site www.nohoartsdistrict.com for booking updates. As always, an interested artist can contact the Community Redevelopment Agency at (818) 753-1819. Demo items can be mailed to NoHo Scene 5200 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91601 (Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Building top floor). Serious aplicants, only, please. Quality and commitment will open doors.

CRESTING WAVES OF JOY AND SORROW

"Think globally. Act locally."  Mahatma Gandhi

On December 4th, 2004 we dedicated a Humanity Tree at the intersection of Lankershim and Magnolia Boulevards to inaugurate the Holiday Celebration. The tree symbolizes a coming together of all nations, all cultures, all religions
and all people. On the 18th we held our event will joy in our hearts. On the morning of December 26th, we, along with the rest of the Western Hemisphere, awoke to the news that over 200,000 people perished in a tremendous serge of the Indian Ocean. Our hearts fell like the rain. Tens of thousands of people are still homeless. Please click on the photo below and make a donation to the relief organization of your choice (links via National Public Radio). Haiti earthquake, Hurricane Katrina victims and other areas are still need (both financial and/or letters of support) can also be helped through the links. November 2008 was California Earthquake Awareness Month. We could be next!

Please, for the sake of all humanity, aim your thoughts, prayers, meditation and/or positive actions in the directions of peace, understanding and ecological well being throughout 2010 and the years to come. As an open-hearted majority of inclusive, non-judgmental individuals, the future can be shaped through the guidance of our gentle hands.

May this New Decade bring you warmth and spontaneous creativity in every step you take.
